Mulberry will disable setting labels via the menu commands if the server does not advertise support. Some (most) servers support labels, some do not (I am aware that Exchange is one that does not - not sure about others). If you think it should work with your server, re-open this bug and we will look at the server protocol in detail to see.

hi cyrus,

currently testing against a communigate server.

TBird 15 allows labelling w/o problem.

now, i *do* suspect that 'labelling' may have different meaning in TBird & Mulberry, but that remains to be seen, i s'pose ...

so, reopening for now. please let me know what you need.

(p.s. what do we need to do to be getting bug/updated notifications? afaict, i got nothing about your edits here ...)

cheers,

richard

RFC 3501 (IMAPv4), page 64 discusses the PERMANENTFLAGS response:

The PERMANENTFLAGS list can also include the special flag \*,
which indicates that it is possible to create new keywords by
attempting to store those flags in the mailbox.

Last I checked, Communigate Pro does not include "\*" in the PERMANENTFLAGS response, which is why Mulberry inactivates its support for custom message labels.

Stalker was asked about this in 2001 (link), and they did not reply. It might be worth trying to bring it up with them again, RFC in hand.

2001? wow!

ok, thx for the RFC reference.

please 'close' this one & get it off your list, and i'll deal directly with them. i'll be testing with other servers soon, and will open another ticket if/as problems arise.

odd, though, that TBird allows labeling ... must be another mechanism? i note that TBird will allow me to retain said labels in LOCAL folders in DISCONNECTED mode ... so it's gotta be something non-server related, no?
