Description
Frequently, I want to edit the Subject, To:, CC:, or other fields of an outgoing, saved or incoming message. Clicking in the middle of the text in a field, I want to select (in order to subsequently copy or delete) all of the text before or after the insertion point. Clicking and dragging downward in a single line field will select all of the text from the insertion point to the end of the field. This is as it should be.
Clicking and dragging upwards does nothing. It should select all the text from the insertion point to the beginning of the field. This used to operate properly in versions up through 3.1.6. I am unsure whether it worked in 4.0.3 and 4.0.4. I know that it hasn't worked properly in versions 4.0.5, 4.0.6, and 4.0.7b1.
I have verified the problem on several G4 Macintosh computers and one G5, running recent operating system versions 10.4.3 through 10.4.8.
